 Steering Committee

Founded in 1972, Dignity/New York is a chapter of DignityUSA. It is an independent, self-sustaining community of LGBTQ people and their friends who are committed to expressing our sexuality in a Christian way, and to working for equality for LGBTQ people in the Catholic Church and in society.

It is incorporated as a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 corporation in the State of New York. All members of Dignity/New York annually elect a Steering Committee to conduct the business of the community in monthly meetings, guided by the chapter's by-laws. Numerous other committees, working groups, and individual volunteers also carry out the work of the chapter.

Dignity/New York serves the spiritual needs of LGBTQ persons within the framework of the Roman Catholic tradition, primarily through weekly and special-occasion liturgies or masses, and calls its members to work for justice for and acceptance of LGBTQ persons, often in partnership with similarly-focused organizations, both religious and secular.

 Spiritual Life
Dignity New York encourages Catholic lesbian gay bisexual transgender queer persons to grow spiritually in ways that are meaningful to them.
