Dignity/New York Pride Proclamation
In the 43th year since the Stonewall Rebellion,
In the 40th year since the creation of Dignity New York,
In the 25nd year of our exile from the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, tonight is the night, we gather together as a faith community of lesbian and gay, bisexual and straight, transgender and all gender, queer and questioning, Catholics, Christians, and people of God.
We gather from different backgrounds, different races and ethnicities, male and female, young and old, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, wives and husbands, partners and lovers, sisters and brothers, friends, families, and supporters, from near and from far, all united in one belief—in the dignity of all God’s children.
Tonight is the night, we gather as a community of individuals, working together to welcome the oppressed, exiled and excluded, to touch the poor and suffering, heal the sick, and care for the homebound and forgotten. We gather as a symbol of righteousness and honesty.
We gather in the prophetic witness of Jesus, whose passion for justice and love conquered fear and death.
Tonight is the night, we gather as prophets, telling the world about the New Jerusalem, where all people are included in God’s grace and God dwells among us.
We gather in our celebration of Pride.
We gather in love and life.
Tonight is the night, we gather for the Lavender Liturgy of Dignity New York.
