The Roman Missal

We would like to clarify our community’s leadership position on the new missal, and to provide the reasons behind our decision to not make use of it.

We feel that the new missal really systematically dismantles the Second Vatican Council’s document on the sacred liturgy; “Sacrosanctum Concilium”.

This missal is, unfortunately, yet another example of the Vatican’s “top down” decision making process; a process similar to the one we experienced as we were expelled from all our Catholic Church properties across the U.S.

In addition, we feel that this new missal does not use inclusive language, lacks simplicity and poetry, and excludes women.

In the new translation, the images of God used actually serve to “push us away” from the everyday experience of the Divine, and the language does not encourage us to experience God/Jesus in a personal way in our lives as gay, bisexual, transgender and straight Catholics.
