Pope Francis Again Demonstrates Dangerous Ignorance About Gay Sexuality; Remarks About Gay Priests Perpetuate Damaging and Discredited Stereotypes

Boston, MA, December 3, 2018. DignityUSA, the world’s oldest and largest organization of Catholics committed to justice, equality, and full inclusion of LGBTQI people in the church and society, expressed its deep concern about reported passages in Pope Francis’ new book, saying they reveal a profound ignorance of human sexuality, perpetuate long-disproved myths about lesbian and gay people, and promote discrimination and violence against LGBTQI people around the world. Pope Francis is quoted in recent news reports as saying that gay people should not apply for or be admitted to the Catholic priesthood or religious communities because “in consecrated and priestly life, there is no room for that kind of affection.” He also reportedly wrote, “In our societies it even seems that homosexuality is fashionable and that mentality, in some way, also influences the life of the church.”
Equal Future 2018

Many of our DignityUSA members attend the World Meeting of Families 2018 representing the LGBTQI family.

One of the organizations that DignityUSA proudly sponsors is Equal Future 2018, an international humanitarian campaign which seeks to seize on a moment in history to raise awareness around the world of the damage done to children when they are given the sense that being LGBT would be a misfortune or a disappointment.

Pride 2018

Before the NYC Pride Parade began, we spent thirty minutes in front of St. Patrick’s in witness. We have done this continuously since 1987. What a great opportunity to let people know us. Many of us had wonderful conversations with people from all over the world.

Below is a link to the New York Daily News photo slide they call "some of the best parade moments over the years."  Dignity/New York is featured in a 1986 Witness at the Cathedral. (Photo 16/27)
